Vancouver\'s Parks
Vancouver has more than 200 diverse parks, but Vancouver\'s most famous park is Stanley Park. One of the largest urban parks in the world at 3.9 square kilometers, with 150 year old forest, 8.85 kilometers of seawall, and many popular attractions.
History of Vancouver
Archaeological evidence shows that the Coast Salish people had settled the Vancouver area by 500 BC. In the 1870s, Vancouver was founded as a sawmill settlement called Granville. And in 1886, the city was incorporated and renamed Vancouver after Captain George Vancouver, a British naval captain who explored the area in 1792. Three months later, on June 13, 1886, a devastating fire destroyed most of the city, but the community was soon rebuilt and prospered.

The City of Trees
Enough about Landscaping,Blessed with a mild climate and long growing season, Vancouver supports an extremely diverse and healthy urban forest. This priceless resource includes native west coast woodlands, stately park specimens and over 138,000 boulevard trees lining the City\'s streets.
Vancouver Park Board staff are responsible for the care and maintenance of all public trees. Our dedicated arborists grow trees at Vancouver\'s own tree farm and plant thousands of new trees each year.
Staff systematically inspect and prune both park and street trees, respond to thousands of service requests annually, and treat trees when they become diseased or infested with pests.
Together with neighbourhood groups, schools, and other agencies, the Park Board promotes and enhances our urban forest to ensure the beauty and liveability of our city.
